The River Garden Tea Tour is guided by your own Host gives you a chance to immerse yourself in the history of Tea at Tregothnan. Also discover the rich heritage of the estate around Coombe, Kea and Halwyn. You will venture through Europe’s largest Tea Garden, find out about the rare Kea Plum Orchards and take a trip through the Jungle Garden that has been hidden for 25 years

The tour of the River Garden’s takes around three hours, covering on foot about 2 miles.

The walk includes uneven terrain, steep inclines and declines and stiles, so sturdy footwear (walking boots/wellies) is strongly advised. We recommend this experience is suited to guests with good mobility.

Held at either 10:00am, 12:00pm or 2:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads to protect our local wildlife.

The tour will start and finish at the heart of Coombe in the Reading Room postcode: TR3 6AR.

Autumn / Winter River Garden Tea Tour – Private Host

This pre-booked tour is guided by knowledgeable experts and will give you a history of Europe’s largest tea Gardens and show you how to process tea and includes picking your own tea to take home for processing and your own enjoyment.

Get swept up in the magic of the largest tea gardens in Europe. The sheer scale of the landscape on view is breath-taking. Guests are always intrigued with this aspect of the living Tregothnan estate and how the landscape here has been cared for and managed for nearly 700 years. 

Your tour guide will be happy to focus on the areas you find most interesting, whether that is how Tregothnan started to grow tea, the history of Kea Plums or even why tea has become the most widely consumed drink on the planet (after water). 

Please note: Please wear sturdy footwear (walking boots/wellies) as it is uneven terrain.

There will be a stile you will need to be able to step over along with steep inclines and declines.
