(Jug-ul-an)
Jiaogulan, referred to as the 'immortality herb', is a cucumber relative native to the mountainous regions of southern China. Scientifically known as Gynostemma pentaphyllum, this herbal tea is celebrated for its adaptogenic properties, which help
the body resist stress and maintain balance.
It is rich in saponins, antioxidants and amino acids, which support cardiovascular health, enhance immunity and promote longevity.
In traditional Chinese medicine, jiaogulan is used to increase energy, improve mental clarity and regulate blood pressure. Although relatively unknown in the West, it is gaining recognition. The plant is easy to grow outdoors as a climbing annual.
How to serve
Steep the dried leaves in 80°C water for several minutes, allowing the beneficial
compounds to infuse.
The tea is a vibrant green colour with a refreshing flavour-slightly bitter, yet sweet.
