A sad good bye to Alwyn, Chief teabag machine operator

Goodbyes for Tregothnan team members

It’s all change in the trading department with our Tregothnan team members on this unusual Wednesday in May. Today we must say goodbye to two of our colleagues – one moving onto the first exciting step in her career, the other retiring for the well-deserved chance to put his feet up with a cup of tea…

Retiring today after seven years as Tregothnan’s chief teabag machine operator, Alwyn Keenor, has furnished Tregothnan’s customers with over 18 million teabags. One of the most cheerful and much-loved members of the small trading team at Tregothnan, we will all miss his smiley face and verve for life!

Reflecting on leaving the Tregothnan team members today, Alwyn commented,

“It’s been a delight. Of all the 49 years of my working life, these past seven years have been by far the best. I’ve been surrounded by helpful, genuine and loveable people. Being part of Tregothnan’s trading team allows people to connect and it makes all the difference to the business. It flows from one person to the next. It’s this quality of spirit that creates a special team.”

We couldn’t bring ourselves to totally let him go, so Alwyn knows the door to Tregothnan is always open. We’re hoping once he’s had a little break he might fancy coming back to make it a round 20 million teabags…

The other member of the team we’re sending our good luck wishes to today is Madeline Murphy, one of marketing’s fabulous apprentices. Maddie has successfully completed her apprenticeship and has secured a new role as Marketing Co-ordinator for The Crantock Bakery.

“I am excited and nervous about my new job, my first in marketing since I began my Marketing Apprenticeship at Tregothnan last year. I have been given such a great opportunity for my career here – my confidence has increased and given me faith in my own abilities. I have loved working with everyone at Tregothnan – I will be very sad to have to say goodbye.”

In 2017 Maddie was nominated for The Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards’ Marketing Apprentice of the Year, having been an integral part of Tregothnan’s brand refreshment and packaging redesign, releasing this year.
