We are proud to announce we have been shortlisted for Truro and Penwith College’s SME Employer of the year, building from our successes in 2018 where both our nominated apprentices were recognised in the Cornwall apprenticeship Awards.
Tregothnan have been running an apprenticeship scheme since 2015, having successfully employed 12 apprentices working in nine different roles across the Estate. We currently have five active apprentices and three who have remained in permanent roles. We aim to recruit three new apprentices every year, including a beekeeper for 2020. The roles we currently have are Events Management, Horticulture, Procurement and Supply, Joinery and Equine.
When an apprentice joins their new department, they are given a sole project that they are responsible for. For example, the Accounts Apprentices have had responsibility for developing a purchase order process and supplier analysis. We believe this crucial for apprentices not only learning their chosen skill, but to also learn vital transferable skills such as time engagement and team working skills.
“Representing Tregothnan as an apprentice is so rewarding. I have learnt an array of skills and gained so much knowledge working here. The support given from Tregothnan as an employer has been fantastic, being an apprentice means your job role encompasses so many different tasks in order to expand your knowledge. The way that Tregothnan look after us as apprentices is impeccable, we are given a lot of independence and tasks to build our confidence and expertise in the role. I am very proud to work for Tregothnan but even more so to be an apprentice.” – Bethan Kent, Accounts Apprentice.
We are extremely proud of all our apprentices and the progress they have made on their journeys so far. We will let you know the results following the awards ceremony on Friday 15th November 2019.
