Tea & Orchard Tour
All bookings are taken 48hrs in advance of your tour.
Tregothnan has become well known for pioneering tea cultivation in the UK and is home to Europe’s largest tea gardens. Now is your chance to experience some of these gardens for yourself.
Each tour takes about two hours, covering about 2 miles and a variety of terrains from the tea gardens at Halwyn overlooking the King Harry ferry to the Kea Plum orchards of Coombe by the edge of the foreshore.
Bring some sturdy footwear, lots of questions and energy, and enjoy a unique insight into this fascinating part of the Tregothnan estate, where the tea meets the sea!
You start and finish your tour on the foreshore at Coombe (TR3 6AR) where you can make use of toilet facilities, and visit our Reading Room shop.
You can finish your tour with a luxurious Tregothnan cream tea to take away. Other refreshment options and private catering can be arranged – just get in touch before you visit.
This is a special experience for anyone with a passion for tea, rare fruits or simply a love of the great outdoors and unrivalled views.
Get swept up in the magic of the largest tea gardens in Europe. The sheer scale of the landscape on view is breath-taking. Guests are always intrigued with this aspect of the living Tregothnan estate and how the landscape here has been cared for and managed for nearly 700 years.
Your tour guide will be happy to focus on the areas you find most interesting, whether that is how Tregothnan started to grow tea, the history of Kea Plums or even why tea has become the most widely consumed drink on the planet (after water).
The areas you will visit include the Halwyn, Coombe and Vounder tea gardens as well the hidden valley jungle garden, Kea Plum, and rare apple orchards. You will also take in glorious views over the 18-metre deep Fal River at the centre of the Humphry Repton designed landscape.
These private tours can be held at either 10am or 2pm Tuesday – Thursday. Well behaved dogs are welcome to join along must be kept on a lead to protect the local wildlife.

Due to the length of the tour and the expansive nature of the garden, we recommend that this experience is suited to guests with good mobility as some of the walking will be over broken terrain and can be quite steep.
