Home to Tregothnan’s very own Wild Escapes, Coombe’s beautiful, waterside setting is the perfect backdrop for your Cornish proposal. Secluded and undisturbed, our one-bedroom, luxurious cottages are perfect breaks for couples and arguably the most romantic cottages in Cornwall. Sweeping along the riverside and curving into the dramatic Roseland landscape, our holiday cottages each have private outdoor spaces allowing for a full sense of romance with views across the Fal. It’s as if Coombe in Cornwall has been designed with proposing in mind. Long walks along the edge of the meandering river Fal, lead to secluded, secret coves and Kea plum orchards.
We believe that Coombe is one of the top places to propose in Cornwall because we have already hosted FOUR marriage proposals in our Wild Escapes cottages this year! Three of the four proposals have been casually bestowed whilst swinging in the hammock in the garden of the Shepherd’s Hut, whilst the fourth proposal occurred in the privacy of Turn-a-Penny cottage on the edge of Coombe’s plum orchards.
Loyal Wild Escapes’ visitors, Adam and Andie Leys, credit Tregothnan Coombe’s Wild Escapes with the most significant and romantic milestones in their relationship. Not only did Adam ask Andie to marry him at Pencreek cottage, but they also made Coombe the destination for their honeymoon, their first wedding anniversary celebration and have now stayed at every single one of our romantic cottages in Cornwall over the past six years. It’s no wonder then, that this location has become one of the top places to propose in Cornwall and is home to so many special memories for lots of our guests at Coombe.
Proposing in Cornwall is now a phenomenon, thanks in part to film location scouts who choose our spectacular scenery as backdrops for romantic films such as Richard Curtis’ ‘About Time’. The marriage for this classic British love story was filmed in Tregothnan’s family church in the village of St. Michael Penkevil in 2012, producing the most beautiful wedding setting for the movie.
Coombe also provided the setting for an intimate Tregothnan wedding reception this May. The largest of our cottages, Holly, was decorated with fresh foliage garlands and floral centrepieces handmade by our florists using only the best of seasonal British flowers. The couple’s 20 guests relaxed with aperitifs by the riverside while Tregothnan’s catering team whipped up the wedding feast. After an evening of fun and romance, the guest all retreated to their own Wild Escape cottage, turning the magic of the day into the whole weekend.
