Veganuary and Dry January
New year, new you. But don’t worry you can still drink tea.
With 2018 so far seeing the rise of Veganuary and Dry January and 3 million British people expected to give up alcohol this month, it gives us a great opportunity to drink more tea – tea is both vegan and alcohol free.
We would like to see more than the expected two thirds of people who make a Veganuary or Dry January resolution make it to the end of the month with their vows intact. Our homegrown teas and infusions are packed with flavour, thirst quenching and can be paired to complement the flavours in your food.
We have recently created a tea flavour wheel with development chef James Strawbridge, and this tells us exactly what type of tea compliments certain meals the best. For example, if you were to have a salad based meal you should have a Peppermint tea, a fruity based meal, Red Berry would complement it well and a citrus based meal (lemon, lime, ginger) would be best paired with an Earl Grey. But it doesn’t stop there. There are lots more great health benefits in teas which will give you more willpower to stick to your New Year’s resolutions. Below are some further reasons why you should drink more of the nation’s favourite drink.
- Tea contains antioxidants which provide your body with health benefits and are believed to help lower your risk of infections and some forms of cancer.
- Unadulterated tea contains no calories. Tea is a flavoursome alternative to water.
- It is believed tea can keep your smile white. Research shows that when drinking tea it changes the pH in your mouth which may prevent cavities. Unlike many other beverages tea does also not appear to cause erosion in tooth enamel and is over all good for your teeth.
- People who drink tea appear to have stronger bones. You don’t have to add milk for it to help your bones. Studies have shown that regular tea drinkers have stronger bones than non-tea drinkers. Even when other variants where changed, scientists have theorized it may be a benefit of physiochemical in tea
- It is believed tea reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Tea helps prevent the formation of dangerous blood clots which often cause heart attacks and strokes. Some studies have found that regular tea drinkers are at a 70% lower risk of a heart attack than non-tea drinkers.
Getting all the nutrition and protein you need is easy when you’re a vegan, if you know what to eat. An example of a Vegan who has no problem gaining the protein they need is David Haye, the former WBA champion became vegan in 2014.
