Record-breaking success at the UK’s largest garden open weekend
A year in preparation, last weekend saw our most successful Charity Garden Open Weekend yet, with over 5,000 people from all over the UK flocking to visit Tregothnan’s beautiful, botanical gardens and bask in the warm, Cornish sunshine.
Visitors were given the unique opportunity to explore our exclusive gardens – the gates of which only open once a year and walk around the gardens at leisure. Visitors were able to do so with the accompaniment of music provided by local choirs; In-tune, Military Wives Culdrose, City of Truro Male Voice Choir, Celtic Male Ensemble and the Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust (RAOST).
With the spectacular support from the public in coming to visit the gardens and the success of the refreshments available throughout the weekend, we are delighted to be able to donate £50,000 to St. Petroc’s Society, smashing previous years’ records by £10,000.
We celebrated this lunchtime by hosting a BBQ for all the volunteers who made this wonderful weekend possible. Following the feast, which was well received by all those who attended, the cheque was presented by Oscar Jones and The Hon Evelyn Boscawen to Steve Ellis – the CEO of The St.Petrocs Charity.
Despite our Charity Garden Opening finishing only this Sunday, preparation has already begun for our next Charity Garden Open Weekend and dates have been agreed for the 21st and 22nd of April 2018, in support of Merlin MS Centre who help support those living with multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. Tickets are now available with an early bird discounted rate.
