Christmas Trees at Tregothnan

It’s that time of year again! Tregothnan’s famous Christmas Tree Experience is now open every day until 23rd December from 9am – 5pm. A wonderful family day out, the free-entry event offers visitors the opportunity to select, cut, or dig their own conifer. The estate has already supplied big trees to Truro Cathedral, Fifteen Cornwall, Trelissick Gardens and The Alverton Manor.

Plantation Manager Will Attlee said: “It’s so wonderful to see customers returning year after year for such a magical Christmas adventure. Many visited for the first time as children with their parents and now return with their own children, to continue the family tradition.”

This year, there is a new growing area dedicated to super-scented Radiata Pines. Native to California and Mexico, Tregothnan is the only place in the UK offering this unusual super-scented variety as the ultimate Christmas tree to evoke the scent of Christmas from our childhood. Tregothnan’s cultivating experiments with this pine have been inspired by the exploits of Cornish plant collector William Lobb, who first brought this tree to the Duchy in 1854.

Head Gardener Neil Bennett said: “We love to pioneer new plants and we are growing a hundreds of our own extra scented pine this year. Cut and sold fresh – they truly are the perfect Christmas trees.”

First brought back from California in 1854 by Cornish plant Collector William Lobb, the super-scented pine has been carefully cultivated and bred for its beautiful shape and scent.

The Christmas Cabin will be open to offer Tregothnan teas to warm visitors and our range of wreaths will also be available. Christmas tree prices start at £15. Please bring your own saws and spades to dig (and wear wellies!) Follow arrow signs from Tresillian to TR2 4AJ.
