The Merlin MS Centre is the chosen charity for the Open Garden Weekend 2018

Open Garden Weekend 2018 in support of the Merlin MS Centre

This April on the 21st and 22nd of April we will host the UK’s largest charity Garden Weekend in aid of The Merlin MS Centre, St. Austell – Cornwall’s only Mulitple Sclerosis therapy centre.

The Centre aims to provide therapies that are accessible and affordable to those who find themselves, or their loved ones affected by Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological conditions.

‘’Our Mission is to create, develop and sustain a centre of excellence for the delivery of treatment, support and fellowship to those living with MS their families and their carers.’’ The Merlin MS Centre.

The centre offers a wide range of therapies from physiotherapy and sensory integration therapy to counselling and emotional support. Providing a vital source of relief for people living with neurological conditions like Parkinson’s or those who are recovering from a stroke.

They also offer a range of therapies that otherwise would be inaccessible to people in Cornwall. These include Oxygen Therapy – the medical use of oxygen in a pressured environment. This therapy benefits not only those suffering from MS but also help with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Polymyalgia, Parkinsons, Stroke, Autism, Cerebal Palsy, Cancer, Leg Ulcers/Wound Healing, Fibromyalgia and various sports injuries.

All the treatments at the centre are tailored to each individual to ensure that everyone receives the care that is right for them. A team from Tregothnan visited the Merlin MS Centre to find out more about how this incredible facility is making a positive impact on the lives of the people who go there. Marketing Manager at Tregothnan, Bella Percy-Hughes, commented:

“We were bowled over by the attitude of the staff, carers and clients at the Merlin MS Centre. The atmosphere of positivity makes it such a welcoming environment. It’s so easy to see how vital this place of respite is for the people who live with MS and their carers. We couldn’t be happier that the Merlin MS Centre is the main charity benefitting from this year’s open weekend and we’ll do everything we can to try and raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause.”

As well as working towards improving the quality of life for their clients, the centre also offers a range of counselling services to provide emotional support to those suffering with a wide range of issues from depression or anxiety to dealing with new diagnosis or loneliness. The face to face counselling allows people living with neurological conditions the chance to talk to someone about how they feel and get support when they need it most.

The Merlin Centre also runs counselling sessions online via Skype and FaceTime to ensure that even when their clients can’t make it to the centre, they do receive the support they need, when they need it most.

Not only does this inspiring charity offer one-of-a-kind treatments and services, the Merlin MS Centre has also become a haven for the families of those whose loved ones have been affected. The Merlin MS centre offers respite care and the chance to socialise within a community of people who understand exactly how they are feeling and what they are going through.

Holding social groups and events within the centre they provide fun and relief to those who otherwise can be left feeling isolated and alone, providing not only patients but their carers with some much needed TLC.
