Putting the English into English Tea
We are proud to be the only producer growing tea in England. Tea bushes, or Camellia sinensis, thrive at our Cornwall estate where we have been producing a range of fine teas and herbal infusions, or tisanes, since 2006 when our Classic blend was the first to be introduced.
Back then our tea was stocked exclusively by Fortnum & Mason, but since then the story of our unique tea plantation has captured the inagination of tea drinkers throughout the UK, Europe, America, Japan and beyond. Today the range includes four black teas, one green tea and a growing number of herbal infusions including Manuka which is completely unique to Tregothnan.
Our black and green teas, exclusing our exclusive Single Estate, are blends of our own hand-plucked tea leaves carefully combined with the finest Assam, Darjeeling, and China-type leaves which we source from the best tea estates. Discover more about tea and follow the tea trail from bush to cup.

Classic Tea: England in a cup! Our unique Classic Tea is a consistent and satisfying blend of exclusive hand-plucked Tregothnan leaves with the finest Assam and China-type leaves. Simply delicious with a bold and full-bodied flavour, this charming tea has a hefty following of celebrity fans including Carol Thatcher and Jodie Kidd. As Bernard-Paul Heroux put it so perfectly, “There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea.”
Earl Grey: Almost 200 years after Earl Grey enjoyed this blend, his direct descendant has created the ultimate tribute: Earl Grey made with our ultra-rare tea leaves, the finest Assam, and Citrus bergamia. US tea blogger Geoffrey Norman recently raved about our “perfect Earl Grey,” which he described as “the most British Earl Grey Ever.” Invigorating and uplifting, it is more subtle and sophisticated than most commercial Earl Grey blends.
Afternoon Tea: A light and exotic blend of unique hand-plucked leaves from our estate with the finest tea from Darjeeling (Tregothnan’s twin). Quintessentially British, our Afternoon Tea is delicately refreshing with invigorating citrus notes. We think it is best savoured around 3pm (with a Cornish cream tea, of course!) – but it is equally as delicious at any time of the day. How true these words from Henry James are: “There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea” – Portrait of a Lady.
Green Tea: This tea ticks all the boxes – it is rich in health benefits as well as having an incredible flavour. Tregothnan Green Tea grows in unique conditions and is from the same type of bushes as those from which Green Tea was first discovered in China. A devoted drinker recently said: “Tregothnan Green Tea is not bitter like others that I’ve tried – I have to say it is the best I've ever tasted!"
Fennel: There is something about this beverage that evokes childhood trips to the sweetshop. Tregothnan’s cultivated whole Fennel seeds have a sweet flavour to delight the senses, and this infusion is delicious both hot and cold. In India, the seeds are chewed after a meal to freshen the breath and soothe the digestive tract thanks to it being especially high in soothing oils. Talking of food, add a teaspoon to the pan after you’ve cooked fish, a glug of white wine and a little cream and you’ll have a delicious sauce. Caffeine Free.
Nettle: Newcomers to infusions usually approach Nettles with trepidation, but this delicious whole-leaf tisane has no sting in its tail! Ask a medical herbalist which herbal infusion they would take if they were to be stranded on a desert island (along with a kettle and a mug) and many would go straight for Nettle. Considered the healthiest tea of all, it is full of nutrients including vitamin C, zinc, iron and silica. Aside from being an all-round blood tonic, its excellent anti-histamine properties make it ideal for hay-fever sufferers. Cleansing and aromatic, Nettles help to remove impurities. Fresh leaves are plucked at Tregothnan (with gloves!) then chopped and dried – that’s all. Caffeine Free.
Chamomile: Stretch out, think of England, and indulge in this relaxing infusion. Grown and picked on the Tregothnan estate, this plant has been used for years as a medicinal cure-all to sooth nerves, calm the mind, help fluey colds and ease menstrual cramps. As it contains anti-inflammatory properties, try ringing your flannel out in our Chamomile infusion and leaving it on your face for a while – perfect for pepping up skin and relieving tired eyes! A mild sedative, it is fabulous to drink at night to encourage a better quality sleep. Caffeine Free.
Echinacea: Our Echinacea infusion is a powerful immune booster, making it a wonderful drink for anyone who's feeling a bit under the weather. Exceptionally good in winter, this magnificent little plant is just what you need to keep colds and flu at bay. It’s also good for wound-healing, so sip – and even gargle – our Echinacea infusion if you have mouth ulcers. And it tastes amazing too! Floral, delicate and refreshing, it is a delightful relaxing beverage to sip at the end of a hectic day. Caffeine Free.
Manuka: Manuka has been grown exclusively at Tregothnan since it was first introduced here from New Zealand in the 1880s. Likened to Rooibos or Honeybush from South Africa, it has such a distinctive sweet flavour. These bushes are celebrated for their antibacterial properties used both internally and externally and are even used by nurses to dress wounds. Brew yourself a cup of Manuka infusion next time you need to soothe a sore throat. The Maoris certainly knew what was good for them! Caffeine Free.
Myrtle: In Greek mythology, Myrtle was sacred to Aphrodite and we hope to you too. Myrtle leaves, berries and twigs are used in flavouring food and wines, but the leaves are just as divine and full of fresh green flavour in our herbal infusion. Plus, it’s good for you. Myrtle contains anti-bacterial properties and positive effects when suffering from common colds, influenzas and indigestion. Sleep peacefully after a cup of this fresh and calming brew. Caffeine Free.
Chocolate Mint: Indulgent and refreshing, our rare Chocolate Mint infusion is a wonderful after-dinner beverage without the guilt or calories! An exquisite mix of minty freshness and chocolaty richness – a partnership so perfect, they fit together just as smoothly as ‘English’ and ‘tea.’ Caffeine Free.
Eucalyptus: Healthy, lively, lovely Eucalyptus! Alleviate nasal congestion and maintain clear breathing passages with this infusion created from our Eucalyptus plants plucked on the Tregothnan estate. A great tea for winter maladies, it is both anti-bacterial and anti-viral for effective respiratory support. Caffeine Free.
Lemon Verbena: Our cut leaves give a wonderful rich lemon verbena scent and taste when infused. Its many health benefits include it working as an antidepressant, expectorant, nerve tonic, and digestive aid. Tregothnan make no such medical claims but we do urge you to simply enjoy its zingy flavour. It can also be added to other teas to add a hint of Lemon. Caffeine Free.
Peppermint: Our whole leaf Peppermint infusion picked at Tregothnan has a unique fresh aroma to match its distinctive natural taste. This refreshing and pure infusion is our new best friend, with its super menthol powers that aid digestion, prevent nausea, beat stress, tackle headaches, soothe muscle aches, and ease asthma. Wow! Caffeine Free.
Pineapple Mint: What an interesting flavour in a Herbal Tisane! A naturally occurring pineapple aroma arises from this mint infusion which is refreshing and surprising. In ancient Greece, Mint was a symbol of hospitality and tables were traditionally rubbed with it before being set for dinner guests. We recommend sipping it after a meal instead - delightful either hot or cold, it is naturally sweet and aromatic with floral notes. Caffeine Free.
