Open Water Swim

Saturday 7th July: 5.3 km Open Water Swim
For 2012, Near Water is planning an open water swimming event. The event will start at Ruan Lanihorne and finish at Smugglers Cottage about 5.3 kms downstream. The swim will start at high tide and swimmers will therefore be aided by an out going tide. The inlet is peaceful, beautiful and ideal for swimming as it is well protected by high wooded banks which come right down to the waters edge.
Registration at Smugglers Cottage (The Roseland Side of The King Harry Ferry) at 06:30 untl 07:30. Then a bus will take all competitors to The Quay at Ruan Lanihorne for the start of the swim.
Refreshments:
There will be a drinks station halfway down the course and there will be a breakfast bbq for all competitors at the finish at Smugglers Cottage.

This winter season the Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne will be taking bookings to hire out the whole venue for groups of 15 - 25 people. Enjoying unrivalled views of the River Fal and one of Tregothnan’s most recently planted tea gardens, Smugglers Cottage is one of the most recognisable and best loved landmarks in Cornwall. The cottage normally closes down for the winter months but this year it is offering private functions to be held throughout the season.

A perfectly situated stop-off for weary paddlers for a bite to eat or a refreshing beverage, Smugglers is a must-visit feature of the river and has been since the 15th century. Single and double kayaks are available, along with a couple of family kayaks (2 adults, 1 small child), and lessons can be arranged with our experienced and fully licensed instructor, Bob.

Wedding bells at Smugglers

Our first Smugglers wedding was a huge success!
Whilst we couldn't quite guarantee sunshine all day for the happy couple, we were delighted that Rhian and Simon's big day went with a bang and the day proved to be a great success. The couple said their vows overlooking our waterfront terrace followed by a beautiful marquee wedding breakfast complete with table flowers sourced from the Tregothnan estate. Smugglers is available for civil wedding ceremonies and receptions. Smaller, intimate wedding parties can be catered for inside the 15th century thatched cottage which can be booked exclusively for the entire day. Alternatively we can cater for larger parties in our marquee, overlooking the river Fal and with distant views to Tregothnan house and deer park. Our hospitality team will work with you to plan every detail of your special day including creating the perfect menu and drinks package. Miracle Theatre tickets still available!

Hurry if you want to get your hands on tickets for our outdoor theatre event on Friday 17th June
They're one of the most innovative and exciting theatre companies in the South West and next Friday Miracle Theatre perform their hilarious production of The Death of Sherlock Holmes at Smugglers, Tolverne. Tickets start at just £8 for theatre only, but why not take the Show Boat? Departing from Falmouth's Customs House Quay at 6pm and returning at approximately 10:45pm our Show Boat tickets offer excellent value for money, not to mention an added element of adventure!
Guests making their own way to Smugglers are advised to arrive early to grab a good spot! A barbecue will be available from 5:00pm and pasties, hot soup and drinks will be served throughout the evening. The production begins at 7:00pm and in true Miracle style the production will go ahead in all weathers! Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs (although seating will be provided), cushions and blankets and are advised to to bring warm, waterproof clothing.... just in case!
